The saying is true. But I believe that nowadays, there needs to be more to it than that. The apple needs to be chemical free - organic, being the cleanest option in existence today. When our grandparents were children, there was no need for organic produce because the soil was nutrient rich!

In addition, the apple needs to be of different varieties. Very few of us have strong digestive systems these days and when we eat the same food over and over, we are taxing the particular digestive enzymes needed to digest that particular food.

Different varieties of organic apples provide minerals, vitamins and fibre necessary for heath! It sure didn't when my eldest was suffering from colic. There are two main causes of colic. It can be diet related - either mother's diet, if breastfeeding or baby's. Dairy is usually the biggest culprit i.e. cow's milk (formula), cream, sour cream, butter, cheese. It can also be that your baby's spine and nervous system are a little out of whack from birth, in which case, a chiropractor, cranial sacral therapist or cranial osteopath will come to your rescue. Please don't just wait for your child to outgrow it! Your child needs to trust the world will come to his or her aid from an early age. Children who are misbehaving, unable to focus, getting sick frequently and not sleeping properly are rampant. How can any of us fulfill our purpose in life when this is what is going on in our homes?

Cars need gas to run. If we were to fill the tank with donuts and chips, the car would not move. The human body is far more sophisticated and incredible. If we feed our bodies donuts and chips, it will run! For a while...and then eventually, the chemicals, sugar, and bad fats will make us sick. If our bodies were not so adaptable, we would not be able to eat donuts and chips. We would know immediately that these foods do not nourish the human body or help it perform.

We all know someone that is sick or has died from health challenges. The best way to keep your child healthy for life is to implement a healthier lifestyle within your family. We need to go back to the way things used to be. Eating more homemade meals, lots of fruits and vegetables and foods from health aisles or health stores is what is needed. There are tasty, healthy alternatives to every food out there. Just try a Twilight chocolate bar from Nature's Emporium or better yet, share it with a friend!

There is still time to help your child flourish before school starts. Dare to be different!

Autism and Nutrition for the mind

The most significant contributing factor in autism is undesirable foods and chemicals that often reach the brain via the bloodstream because of faulty digestion and absorption. There is no need to panic. When common allergens (dairy, wheat, sugar and refined carbohydrates, peanuts, corn and eggs) are avoided, more times than not, the amount of fluid in the ears decreases significantly, infection heals and hearing improves. A fast-acting natural remedy: Mix a couple of drops of olive oil with some pureed garlic (size of a pea) and put it in your child's ear, securing it with a little bit of cotton. This anti-inflammatory solution penetrates the eardrum, settles the pain, kills infection and works really well overnight. Remember garlic is a natural antibiotic!

Spring into Health

Hello everyone. You must have wondered what happened to me....the publication and sales of my book, The Resourceful Mother's Secrets to Healthy Kids, is what happened. What a wonderful experience it has been. So many people have been helping, out of the goodness of their hearts, in selling my books and spreading the word on how to raise healthy children in today's world.

It is my intention to write in this blog once a week now. I had told you I would be sharing excerpts from my book with you but those are on my website now. This week's topic is 'cleansing children' because in the spring, we not only spring clean our homes but it is the best time to spring clean our bodies.

Ideas for cleansing children of all the toxins that accumulate in their little bodies include:

Feed your child detoxifying foods such as organic fruits and vegetables, beans, flax seeds, green powders, garlic and onion

Ensure your child drinks lots of filtered water from a cup he or she enjoys sipping from

Add epsom salt to your child's baths - ensure they drink a cup of water while splish splashing

Go for a walk each evening to the park, jump on the trampoline or ride your bikes together

Sounds simple, doesn't it? That's because it is. Now the trick is implementing it. Just pick one thing you are going to focus on for a week, whether it be the food, water, epsom baths or exercise. Don't try to do it all or you won't be able to stick with it. And if you think this week is too busy, start next week or the week after! All that matters is that you start eventually.

Does anyone else have other cleansing ideas to share? I'd love to hear from you!

Hit counter

I just asked Taylor if she knew how to add a hit counter to my blog because if I knew others were actually reading my blog, it would encourage me to write more often. She said that she had an idea as to how to do it and promptly left the room. About 2 minutes later, she called me into the office and said, "What do you think of this?" Hadn't she found an apple counter? Unbelievable! The grasp children of today have on technology continually amazes me.

Are any of you interested in reading excerpts from my book? That will be the subject of my next blog. Until then, remember to take time out each day, in these weeks leading up to Christmas, to do something you enjoy, and only you. It's the season for giving but don't forget to give to yourself. I learned so much and feel confident that I can help others overcome this horrible flu. This is why I'm offering two seminars explaining how to prevent and overcome H1N1. It has been a while since I've written. Helping a child with homework in grade 5 is a whole new ball game for me - now I know what the rest of you have been doing all these years! Anyways, it was my goal to write again before the end of October, so here I am..... on the last day of October, as my girls get ready excitedly for trick-or-treating. It used to be that I had to go visit the neighbours prior to Halloween night to bring them treats for Taylor that she could safely eat. Even though that was years ago, I still feel relief each Halloween that we are able to go out with her like any other family. Now the concern is my girls eating treats and lowering their immunity, making them more at risk for H1N1! Last year, my girls enjoyed a visit from the Candy Fairy who took away their candy after they had eaten their favourites and replaced the candy with a gift of their choice. That backfired. Paige told friends at school about the Candy Fairy and they told her that there was no such thing. She then asked me if the Tooth Fairy was made up too. When asked any question directly, I cannot lie. I told her there was no Tooth Fairy. Next she said "Next you're going to tell me that there is no Santa." I thought I was in the clear with that one as she hadn't asked me directly. But no....Taylor was in the room and had been keeping that secret for 3 years so she told Paige there was no Santa. If you liked the Candy Fairy idea, before I told my whole story, make sure you tell you tell your children that the fairy does not visit all homes!

Is your child reacting adversely to food?

The majority of children today are reacting adversely to food. Over 200 symptoms, conditions and disease can be triggered or worsened by food. Examples of symptoms that can be caused by food are fatigue (the #1 reaction), rashes including diaper rashes, colic, spitting up, reflux, diarrhea, constipation, frequent colds or infections, poor sleeping, fussiness, behavioural challenges, and many more. Unfortunately, the majority of people view these symptoms as normal because they are so commonly seen but they are not! If these symptoms are not addressed, more symptoms appear and eventually the symptoms become conditions and conditions turn into disease. I am not here to scare you. I am here to tell you that it is up to us as parents to start recognizing symptoms and discover the root cause (it's easier than you think!) because the body will keep communicating with us whether we like it or not! I'd like to hear from you as to the symptom/s your child is experiencing......

My first post

Hello everyone!
